Our Adoption Story

Hi there! Today, I want to share a very special story about our family and our furry friend, Magnus!

First, let me tell you a bit about why we decided to adopt a dog. You see, I have always loved animals. Before I became a teacher, I worked for a place called the RSPCA, which helps animals in need. My family already had house rabbits that we cared for and loved for many years.

One day, we thought about adding a dog to our family. But then I remembered that there are many animals in shelters looking for loving homes. We felt that adopting a rescue dog would be the best choice for us!

Now, I have always had a soft spot for greyhounds. These dogs are often used for racing, but many of them are sadly discarded after they can’t race anymore. When we started this journey, we had a two-year-old son, and finding a rescue that would allow us to adopt a dog with such a young child was tough.

But then we found a wonderful organization called Greyhound Protection UK, or GPUK for short. They were amazing! They helped match us with a dog who would fit well with our family. That’s how we met Magnus, who was also known as Dave before we adopted him.

Magnus had a tough start; he spent his first four years in Ireland where he was used for hare coursing. Luckily, he ended up in a rescue center where GPUK helped him find a forever home.

When we brought Magnus home, he was a little scared at first because he wasn’t used to living in a family environment. But don’t worry! He became part of our family really fast and has turned into the sweetest, gentlest dog we could ever ask for. It’s so lovely to see him playing with our little boy; they are best friends!

Watching Magnus become more comfortable in our home has been a wonderful experience. He brings us joy and laughter every day, and it’s heartwarming to see how he has grown in confidence.

In summary, adopting Magnus from GPUK turned out to be one of the best decisions we ever made. He has truly become a treasured member of our family, and we love him so much! We hope that sharing our story inspires others to think about adopting a rescue animal, just like we did!
