Let's Learn About Giraffes!
Hi there! Today, we're going to learn about a really amazing animal called the giraffe. Giraffes are the tallest animals in the world, and they have some special features that make them unique!
What's Special About Giraffes?
- Long Necks: Giraffes have very long necks. Their necks can be about 6 feet long! That’s taller than most kids!
- Black Tongues: Giraffes have long, black tongues that can be about 20 inches long. They use their tongues to grab leaves to eat.
- Favorite Food: Giraffes love to munch on acacia leaves. These leaves grow on trees that are tall, just like the giraffes themselves!
Why Do They Have Long Necks?
Their long necks help them reach high up in the trees to find food, like acacia leaves. This way, they can eat lunch while other animals have a harder time reaching those leaves!
Fun Fact!
Did you know that when giraffes walk, they move both legs on one side of their body at the same time? This is called 'pacing' and helps them run fast if they need to!
So next time you see a giraffe, remember how special they are with their long necks and black tongues, eating their favorite acacia leaves!
