How Crocodiles and Birds Help Each Other

Did you know that crocodiles and birds can be super buddies? Let's find out how!

Crocodiles and Their Big Teeth

Crocodiles are big reptiles that live in rivers and lakes. They have huge jaws filled with sharp teeth! Sometimes, pieces of food can get stuck in their teeth, just like how sometimes food can get stuck in our teeth after we eat.

Birds Come to Help!

Now, here comes the special part! There are small birds, called Egyptian plovers or cattle egrets, that love to help the crocodiles. When a crocodile opens its big mouth wide, these brave birds fly in to peek at the teeth.

What's in It for Them?

The birds do something amazing! They peck out the food bits stuck between the crocodile’s teeth. This helps the crocodile stay healthy because it keeps its teeth clean.

A Happy Trade!

In return, the birds get a tasty snack from the leftover food. So, both the crocodile and the birds are happy!

Nature's Teamwork!

This kind of friendship is called mutualism because both animals help each other. Isn’t it awesome how creatures can work together in nature?

Let's Remember!

So next time you see a crocodile, think about those little birds and how they help keep their friend’s teeth clean. Nature is full of amazing surprises!
