What is Truth and Reconciliation Day?
Truth and Reconciliation Day is a special day where we remember and learn about the past to make the future better for everyone. It helps us think about how to be kind and respectful to all people, especially Indigenous peoples.
Why is it Important?
This day is important because it teaches us to listen and understand different stories and experiences. In Canada, many Indigenous children were taken away from their families and placed in schools that were not good for them. We remember this day to help everyone feel safe, happy, and included.
How Do We Celebrate?
On Truth and Reconciliation Day, we can do things like:
- Learn about Indigenous culture, stories, and traditions.
- Read books that talk about different experiences.
- Spend time with friends, sharing and caring for each other.
- Wear orange shirts to show support for those who suffered in the past.
What Can You Do?
As a young friend, you can help by being kind to everyone and respecting their feelings. You can ask questions, listen to stories, and share what you learn with your friends!
