What Are Food Groups?
Food groups are different types of foods that we eat every day. They help our bodies grow strong and stay healthy. There are five main food groups we will talk about!
1. Fruits
Fruits are sweet and yummy! They come from plants and trees. Examples include apples, bananas, and oranges. Eating fruits gives our bodies vitamins and energy!
2. Vegetables
Vegetables are also really important! They are different kinds of plants we eat. Some examples are carrots, broccoli, and spinach. Vegetables help us be strong and keep our eyes and skin healthy.
3. Grains
Grains come from plants, and they give us lots of energy to play and learn. Foods like bread, rice, and pasta belong to this group. Whole grains, like brown rice, are even better for us!
4. Proteins
This group helps us grow muscle and be strong! Foods like chicken, fish, beans, and eggs are proteins. Eating proteins gives us the strength to do all our fun activities like running and jumping!
5. Dairy
Dairy foods come from animals, like cows and goats. Milk, cheese, and yogurt are in this group. They are good for our bones and teeth because they have calcium in them!
Why Is It Important to Eat from All Food Groups?
Eating a variety of foods helps us get all the different nutrients our bodies need. Each food group has its special vitamins and minerals that keep us strong and healthy. So, it’s important to have something from each food group every day!
