Learn about the exciting things that come out of a volcano, including lava, ash, and gases, explained in a simple way for young children.
Hi there! Today, we are going to explore what happens when a volcano erupts. A volcano is like a giant mountain that can spit out a few cool things!
When a volcano erupts, it can send out hot, melted rock called lava. This lava is super hot and bright orange, kind of like a river that flows down the mountain. When it cools down, it hardens and turns into solid rock.
A volcano can also push out lots of tiny pieces of rock and dust called ash. This ash can float up into the sky and make a big cloud. Sometimes it can even fall to the ground and cover everything, like a thick blanket!
Besides lava and ash, volcanoes also release gases into the air. These gases can be like a strong smell and can make the air feel different for a little while. They include things like steam and sulfur, which can smell like rotten eggs!
Sometimes, volcanoes can throw out big rocks, called volcanic rocks, during an eruption. These rocks can land far away from the volcano.
If it rains right after a volcano erupts, the ash and rocks can mix with water and create muddy flows called lahars. These can be very dangerous but also interesting!
So, when a volcano erupts, it can let out lava, ash, gases, rocks, and even mud! Isn’t that amazing? Next time you hear about a volcano, you’ll know what cool things can come out of it!
