Understanding Surprise!

Hi there! Today, we are going to talk about a feeling called surprise. Do you know what surprise means? Let’s find out!

What is Surprise?

Surprise is a feeling we get when something happens that we weren’t ready for. It’s like when you find a toy that you thought was lost, or when someone shouts ‘Surprise!’ at a birthday party!

When do we feel surprised?

  • Unexpected Moments: We feel surprised when things happen unexpectedly. For example, if your friend suddenly pops out from behind a door and says ‘Boo!’, you might feel surprised!
  • Good Surprises: Sometimes surprises are fun! Like when you get an unexpected treat or when someone brings you a present!
  • Not So Good Surprises: Other times, surprises can make us feel scared or confused, like when it suddenly starts to rain when we were planning to play outside.

How do we show our surprise?

When we feel surprised, our faces might look wide-eyed or our mouths might drop open! We might even jump or squeal out loud. It’s a way our body tells everyone that we didn’t see that coming!

Why is it okay to be surprised?

Being surprised is okay because it can help us learn about the world around us! It can show us something new or help us enjoy a special moment, like a surprise party!

Let's Talk!

What is the most surprising thing that has ever happened to you? How did it make you feel? Can you remember feeling very happy or maybe a little scared? Talking about our feelings is important, and it helps us understand how we feel better!

So next time you feel surprised, remember it’s just a special feeling that helps us enjoy life’s unexpected moments!
