What is the Spine?

The spine is a special part of our body. You can think of it like a bendy stick that runs down our back!

How Does the Spine Help Us?

The spine helps us in two big ways:
  • Keeps Us Upright: The spine helps us stand up straight. It holds our body together and gives us support so we can sit, stand, and walk without falling over!
  • Helps Us Bend: Just like a bendy stick, our spine can move. This allows us to bend and twist our bodies when we want to pick something up, play, or even dance!

What is the Spine Made Of?

The spine is made up of little bones called vertebrae, which are stacked on top of each other. These bones are flexible, which means they can bend a little!

Why is the Spine Important?

Without our spine, we wouldn't be able to stand, sit, or move around the way we do. It protects our spinal cord, which is like a highway that sends messages from our brain to our body. So, taking care of our spine by sitting up straight and playing safely is important!

Fun Fact

Did you know that the spine also helps us run fast and jump high? The stronger our spine is, the better we can move around and play!
