In a grown-up's body, there are 206 bones. But wait, did you know that babies are born with around 270 bones? It might seem puzzling, but it's actually quite fascinating how our bones change and grow as we grow up.

When you're born, your tiny body has lots of soft and bendy cartilage that eventually turns into hard bones as you get older. Some of these bones fuse together over time, combining and forming larger bones. For example, your skull starts off as several separate bones to protect your brain, but as you grow, these bones fuse together into one tough skull bone.

As you get older and your body grows, some of the bones that were originally separate start to stick together, reducing the total number of bones. For instance, the bones in your spine, called vertebrae, fuse as you age, forming the strong backbone that holds you up straight!

As you mature into an adult, your bones also grow longer and thicker. The long bones in your arms and legs, like your humerus and femur, grow in length and strength to support your body as you become taller and stronger.

So, from the moment you are born with over 270 bones to when you reach adulthood with 206 bones, your body undergoes an amazing transformation, turning soft cartilage into hard bones and fusing bones together to create a sturdy skeleton that helps you move, play, and grow every day!
