What Do Squirrels Do?

Hi there! Do you know about squirrels? Squirrels are fun little animals that like to climb trees and jump around. They have a special habit that’s very interesting!

Making Stashes

Squirrels gather food, like nuts, seeds, and sometimes fruits. They don’t eat all of it at once. Instead, they like to save some for later! This is what we call a 'stash.'

Why Do They Stash Food?

Just like how you might save a cookie for later, squirrels save food because they need it in winter when it’s cold and there aren’t many nuts or seeds around. They want to have enough to eat when food is hard to find!

How Do They Do It?

When a squirrel finds a yummy nut, it digs a small hole in the ground and buries the nut inside. Then, it remembers where it put it. That way, when winter comes, the squirrel can find its stash and eat.

Fun Fact!

Sometimes, squirrels forget where they stash their food. When that happens, new plants might grow from those buried nuts! So, they help nature too!

Let's Pretend!

Can you pretend to be a squirrel? You can gather your toy nuts and hide them around your room. Just like a squirrel, remember where you put them, so you can find them later!
