What is Present Simple?

The present simple tense is a way to talk about things that happen all the time, or things that are always true. We use it to describe actions, habits, and facts.

1. When do we use Present Simple?

  • Regular Actions: We use it to talk about things we do regularly. For example: I go to school every day.
  • Facts: We use it for things that are always true. For example: Water freezes at 0 degrees Celsius.
  • Habits: We can use it to describe habits or routines. For example: I brush my teeth in the morning.

2. How do we form Present Simple?

For most verbs, we simply use the base form of the verb. For example:

  • I play soccer.
  • She sings beautifully.

But when we talk about he, she, or it, we add an -s or -es to the verb. For example:

  • He plays soccer.
  • She watches TV.

3. Negative Form:

To make it negative, we use do not (or don't) for I, you, we, they, and does not (or doesn't) for he, she, it. For example:

  • I do not (don't) like broccoli.
  • He does not (doesn't) play video games.

4. Questions:

To ask a question in the present simple tense, we start with do or does. For example:

  • Do you like ice cream?
  • Does she play the piano?

5. Examples:

  • I eat breakfast every morning.
  • They go to the park on weekends.
  • He reads a book before bed.

Conclusion

The present simple tense is an important part of English that helps us talk about our daily lives, habits, and things that are always true. Practice using it by talking about what you do every day!
