What is the Past Simple Tense?
The past simple tense is a way we talk about things that already happened. It’s like telling a story about the past!
How do we form the Past Simple?
To make the past simple tense, we usually add -ed to the end of regular verbs. For example:
- Play becomes Played
- Jump becomes Jumped
- Walk becomes Walked
But remember, some verbs are irregular, which means they don’t follow this rule. Here are a few examples:
- Go becomes Went
- Eat becomes Ate
- See becomes Saw
Using Past Simple in Sentences
When we want to say what happened, we can form sentences like this:
- Yesterday, I played soccer.
- We watched a movie last night.
- I went to the zoo last summer.
Each of these sentences talks about something that has already happened.
When do we use it?
We use the past simple to:
- Talk about actions that happened at a specific time in the past.
