Okay, imagine you are playing with a flashlight in a big, dark room. When you turn on the flashlight, you can see the light beam shining right away, but it didn't just appear there in a snap. The light actually has to move through the room. This is similar to how when you throw a ball, it takes time to reach your friend on the other side of the yard.

Light travels really, really fast! In fact, it is one of the fastest things in the universe! But still, it’s not instant. It takes a tiny bit of time for the light to get to where we see it. For example, when you flip on the light switch, the light will travel from the bulb to your eyes, and that's why you see the light almost immediately but not instantly.

This is why when we say 'light takes time to travel,' we mean that even though it's super fast, it still has to move through space, just like anything else that moves, like you running or a car driving!
