What is Present Tense?

Present tense is a way of talking about things that are happening right now. It’s when we describe actions or events that are going on in the moment.

How Do We Use Present Tense?

We use present tense to tell someone what we do every day or what is happening at this very moment. For example:

  • I eat an apple. - This means that right now, I am eating an apple.
  • She plays with her toys. - This means that she is playing with her toys at this moment.
  • They run in the park. - This means that they are running in the park right now.

How to Form Present Tense

To make a present tense sentence, you usually start with the subject (who is doing the action), then add the correct form of the verb (the action word).

Examples:

  • I + walk = I walk.
  • He + jumps = He jumps.
  • They + swim = They swim.

Practice

Let’s practice together! Try to make your own sentences in present tense. What are you doing right now? You can say:

  • I am doing my homework.
  • I am playing a game.
  • I am reading a book.

Remember, present tense describes what happens now! Keep practicing, and soon you will be great at using present tense!
