Let’s Play with Colors and Water!
Today, we are going to have a fun time exploring colors and freezing water! This activity is perfect for you because it helps you learn about mixing colors and how things freeze. Are you ready? Let’s go step by step!
What You Will Need:
- Big trays (the size of a baking tray or ice cube tray)
- Water
- Food coloring (red, blue, yellow, green, etc.)
- Two containers for hot and cold water
- A freezer
Step 1: Prepare the Trays
Start by filling your big trays with water. You can use different trays for different experiments. Maybe one tray has hot water, another has cold water, and one with colored water!
Step 2: Add Food Coloring
Now it’s time to make the water pretty! Let’s add some food coloring. You can try mixing different colors together, like blue and yellow to see if you can make green! How do you think colors will look together? Write down your guesses!
Step 3: Discuss Color Combinations
Before freezing, let's talk about what happens when you mix colors. What color do you think red and blue will make? Can you guess what happens when you mix yellow and red? Share your thoughts!
Step 4: Place Them in the Freezer
Carefully put your trays in the freezer. You can say, “Goodbye, water! I can’t wait to see you frozen!”
Step 5: Wait and Check
Now we wait. Check the trays after a while (maybe after 1 hour). Which one froze first? Was it the hot water, the cold water, or the colored water? This is a fun science experiment!
Step 6: Observe the Results
Take the trays out and look at the ice! Look at all the colors and how they look frozen. Was your guess correct? Which water froze the fastest? Hot, cold, clear, or colored? Let’s talk about it!
Step 7: Have Fun!
You can also use your ice to make fun drinks or see what else you can freeze! Try placing little toys in the water before it freezes. How cool is that?
Remember to always ask an adult for help, and enjoy your colorful freezing adventure!
