What was World War 2?
World War 2 was a big fight that happened a long time ago, from 1939 to 1945. It was between many countries around the world, and it was much bigger than World War 1, which happened before it.
Why did it happen?
Some countries wanted more land and power. They didn’t agree with each other about how to share things in the world, and this disagreement turned into a big war.
Who was involved?
There were two main groups of countries:
- The Allies: These countries worked together to stop the others. Important members were the United States, the United Kingdom, the Soviet Union, and China.
- The Axis: This group wanted to take over more land. The main countries were Germany, Italy, and Japan.
Important events during World War 2
One important event was when Japan attacked a place called Pearl Harbor in 1941, which made the United States join the fight. Another big event was when D-Day happened in 1944 when the Allies invaded Europe to free countries that had been taken over.
How did it end?
The war ended in 1945. First, Germany said it was done fighting in May, and then Japan stopped fighting in September after the United States dropped two atomic bombs on its cities.
Why is it important to remember?
World War 2 was very important because many people learned that fighting isn't the best way to solve problems. Instead, it showed that countries need to work together, and it also led to groups like the United Nations, which helps countries talk instead of fight.
Even though it was a tough time, learning about it helps us understand how to make the world a better place!
