Why is the Sea Blue?

Have you ever looked at the sea and wondered why it is blue? Let's talk about it in a fun way!

Step 1: The Sun and Water

The sea gets its color because of sunlight. When the sun shines, its light is made up of many colors. You can see them when you see a rainbow!

Step 2: The Color Blue

When sunlight hits the water, the water absorbs (or soaks up) most colors, but it doesn’t absorb blue very well. So the blue light bounces back and comes straight to our eyes!

Step 3: Other Things Matter Too!

Sometimes, the sea can look green, brown, or even grey. This can happen because of things like sand, algae, or dirt in the water. They change the color we see!

Step 4: Clear Days vs. Cloudy Days

On a clear day, when the sun is shining bright, the sea looks very blue. But on a cloudy day, it might look more grey or even dark. The clouds block some of the sunlight.

Conclusion

So, next time you see the sea, think about the sunlight working with the water to make it look beautiful!
