What is Dew?

At nighttime, when the sun goes down, the air around us starts to cool down. Just like how a warm hug feels nice, but feels different when you step outside into the chilly night.

Now, when the air is warm during the day, it can hold a lot of water, just like a sponge can soak up lots of juice. But when the air cools down at night, it can’t hold onto all that water anymore, and some of it has to go somewhere!

This is where the magic happens! The water in the air starts to turn into tiny drops. These drops are called dew. They are so little that we can hardly see them at first, but when you look closely in the morning, you can see them sparkling on grass, leaves, and flowers like little diamonds!

So, dew is just water that comes out of the air when it gets cool.

Next time you see the grass all glimmery in the morning, you’ll know it’s because the air got cool at night and made those tiny droplets of dew!
