What is Fog?

Fog is like a big cloud that comes down close to the ground! It can make everything look soft and gray. Sometimes, when we wake up in the morning, we see fog outside. It makes it hard to see far away.

How Does Fog Happen?

Fog happens when tiny water drops hang in the air. Here’s how it works:

  1. Warm Air: During the day, the sun warms up the ground and the air.
  2. Cooler Night: At night, the air gets cooler, especially if there are no clouds in the sky.
  3. Moisture: Sometimes, there is moisture in the air (like tiny water droplets).
  4. Condensation: When the warm air cools down, the moisture turns into tiny water drops, and that makes fog!

Fun Facts About Fog!

  • Fog can make it look like a fairy tale world, especially in the morning!
  • Some places have fog almost every day, like San Francisco.
  • Fog can also help plants get water since the tiny drops can fall on leaves.

What to Do When There’s Fog?

When there is fog, it’s important to be careful:

  • Slow Down: If you are in a car, go slowly so you can see better.
  • Stay Together: If you are outside playing, make sure to stay close to your friends or parents.

Fog is beautiful and interesting, and it happens because of the weather! Next time you see fog, you'll know what it is!
