Sea Turtles and Their Flippers

Have you ever seen a sea turtle? They are amazing animals that live in the ocean! Unlike us, sea turtles don’t have legs. Instead, they have special body parts called flippers.

What Are Flippers?

Flippers are like big paddles that help sea turtles swim. You can think of them like our arms, but they are different because they are made for swimming! When a sea turtle wants to swim, it uses its flippers to push the water behind it.

How Do Flippers Help Them Swim?

1. Moving Through Water: When sea turtles flap their flippers, they can glide through the water easily. Just like when you kick your legs while swimming, flippers help turtles move faster!

2. Turning and Diving: Flippers also help turtles turn and dive down in the water to find food. They can move side to side and up and down, just like you might move when playing in a pool.

3. Floating: Sea turtles can float on the surface of the water too. Their flippers help them keep balanced, so they don’t tip over!

Why Are Sea Turtles Special?

Sea turtles are really special animals, and their flippers are an important part of what makes them great swimmers. They help sea turtles travel long distances in the ocean, where they find food and take care of themselves.

Next time you think about turtles, remember how cool their flippers are and how they help them swim through the water!
