Learn about irony in a simple and engaging way, perfect for 10-year-old students. Discover what irony means through fun examples.
Irony is a way of expressing something in which the opposite of what you expect happens. It can be funny or surprising. For example, if a fire station burns down, that's ironic because you wouldn’t expect a place that puts out fires to catch on fire! Another example is when someone says, 'What a beautiful day!' during a rainstorm. In both cases, what happens is different from what you think should happen, making it ironic. It helps us see things from a different angle and sometimes makes stories more interesting!
