What is a Period?

Hello little friend! You might have heard some big people talk about something called a 'period,' and it can sound confusing. Let me explain it to you in a simple way!

Our Bodies Are Special

Every person has a special body that can grow and change as they get older. When someone who is a girl or a woman grows up, their body does something called a 'period' when it’s time for them to become an adult.

What Happens During a Period?

Sometimes, once a month, the body gets ready for something special, like making a baby. If no baby comes, the body doesn’t need all that stuff anymore. So, it lets it go and this is called a period.

What It Looks Like

During a period, some blood comes out, and it is perfectly normal. It’s kind of like when you fall and scrape your knee, you might get some blood, but it goes away after a while.

It’s Okay!

A girl might feel a little different during this time. She might feel tired or a bit grumpy, and that’s okay! It’s very normal for big girls. If you have questions or hear your friends talking about it, it’s nice to ask a trusted adult. They can help explain more!

Everyone's Journey is Unique

Just like how everyone grows at their own pace, people have their periods at different times, and that’s perfectly normal too! Some girls get their periods sooner, and some later.

So remember, periods are just a natural part of growing up, and they are nothing to be scared about. If you ever have questions, you can always talk to someone you trust!
