What is a Period?
A period is a natural part of growing up for girls. It happens when a girl’s body starts to change as she grows a little older, usually around the age of 10 or 11, but everyone is different!
Why Do Periods Happen?
Every month, a girl’s body gets ready to have a baby. The uterus, which is a special place inside a girl's body where a baby would grow, gets thick and soft. If no baby comes, the body doesn’t need all that extra space. So, it lets it go, and that’s what we call a period!
What Does It Feel Like?
Sometimes, girls might feel cramps in their belly or have feelings that come and go, like a tickle in the tummy. This is normal and happens as the body gets used to changes.
How Long Does It Last?
A period can last from a few days to about a week. Just like when we clean up a room, when the body is done, everything goes back to normal until the next month!
Important Notes
If you ever have questions about growth or changes in your body, it’s important to talk to a trusted adult, like a parent or a teacher! They can help answer your questions.
