What is CPR?
CPR stands for Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation. It is a way to help someone when they are not breathing or their heart is not beating. This can happen if someone is very sick or hurt.
Why is CPR Important?
CPR can save lives! When someone is not breathing, they need help right away. CPR helps to keep the blood moving to the brain and other important parts of the body until the ambulance arrives.
How Does CPR Work?
1. Call for Help: If you see someone who is not moving or breathing, it’s important to get an adult to call for help or call 911.
2. Push Hard and Fast: If you know how to do CPR, you press hard and fast in the middle of the person’s chest. This helps their heart to pump blood.
3. Breathe for Them: Sometimes, you also have to give them breaths. You do this by sealing your mouth on theirs and blowing air into their lungs.
Who Can Help with CPR?
CPR is usually taught to adults and older kids, like from 11 years old and up. But it’s good to know that calling for help is very important if you see someone who needs CPR.
Remember:
If you ever see someone in trouble, tell a grown-up right away! Knowing what CPR is and when to get help can make a big difference!
