Understanding Piano Pedals

1. The Right Pedal: The Sustain Pedal

Normally, when you let go of the key, the sound stops right away. But if you hold down the right pedal, the sound keeps going. This is because it helps the strings inside the piano keep vibrating, so you can hear the note for a longer time!

2. The Left Pedal: The Soft Pedal

The left pedal is called the soft pedal. When you press this one, it makes the music quieter and softer. It's like when you whisper instead of speaking loudly! This pedal works by moving the hammers that hit the strings, so they hit the strings in a different way and create a softer sound. If you play the same note while pressing the left pedal, it will sound gentle and soft.

3. How to Use Them

When you’re playing the piano, you can use these pedals to change your music. If you want a note to last longer, press the right pedal. If you want to play softly, press the left pedal. Sometimes, you might even use both pedals together to create beautiful music!
