What is a Planet?

A planet is a big, round object in space that goes around a star. Our star is the Sun!

Key Features of a Planet:

  • Round Shape: Planets are mostly round because of gravity, which pulls everything into a ball shape.
  • Orbit: Planets move in circles around a star. For example, Earth is a planet that orbits around the Sun.
  • Clear Path: A planet has its own path in space where it travels without bumping into other objects.
  • Not a Star: Unlike stars, which shine bright in the night sky, planets don’t make their own light. They reflect the light of the star they orbit.

Examples of Planets:

There are eight planets in our solar system:

  1. Mercury
  2. Venus
  3. Earth
  4. Mars
  5. Jupiter
  6. Saturn
  7. Uranus
  8. Neptune

Fun Facts:

  • Earth is the planet we live on!
  • Jupiter is the biggest planet in our solar system.
  • Saturn has beautiful rings made of ice and rock!

So, a planet is an amazing part of our universe, and we can learn so much about them! Remember, they are big, round objects that travel around stars, just like our Earth goes around the Sun.
