How Olives Become Olive Oil
Olives are little fruits that grow on trees. They can be green or black, and they are very tasty! But did you know that we can make something special from olives called olive oil?
Here’s how it works:
- Picking the Olives: First, the olives grow on the trees. When they are ready, people pick them. It’s like picking apples, but they are smaller and round.
- Washing the Olives: After picking, the olives need to be cleaned. Just like we wash our hands before eating, we wash the olives to make sure they are nice and clean!
- Crushing the Olives: Next, the clean olives are crushed. This means they are squished really hard. This is the fun part! The squishing makes a mushy olive paste.
- Pressing the Olives: Then, this mushy paste is pressed down, like squeezing a sponge. This pressure helps to release the oil from the olives.
- Collecting the Oil: Finally, the olive oil drips out and is collected. This is the yummy oil that people use to cook food or put on salads!
And that’s how we get olive oil from olives! It's a fun process, and it all starts with those little fruits on the tree!
