How Handmade Paper is Made
Making handmade paper is a fun and creative activity! Here’s how you can do it step by step:
Step 1: Gather Materials
- Old newspapers or scrap paper (ask an adult to help you find some!)
- Water
- A blender or a big bowl
- A screen or a piece of cloth
- A flat surface to dry the paper
Step 2: Tear the Paper
Take the old paper and tear it into small pieces. This is a fun task, so make sure to have an adult close by to help!
Step 3: Soak the Paper
Put the torn paper into a bowl or a container with water. Let it soak for about an hour. This helps the paper become soft!
Step 4: Blend the Paper
After soaking, ask an adult to help you blend the paper in a blender. This will turn the paper into a mushy mixture called 'pulp'. If you don’t have a blender, you can mash it with your hands in the bowl!
Step 5: Make the Paper Sheet
Pour the pulp onto the screen or cloth. Spread it out evenly. This is going to be your new piece of paper!
Step 6: Let it Dry
Carefully lift the screen and let the water drip off. Then, put it in a warm place to dry. This might take a few hours or overnight.
Step 7: Enjoy Your Handmade Paper!
Once it's dry, you can peel your paper off and use it for drawing or crafting. Isn’t that exciting?
