What Do Axolotls Look Like?
Axolotls are really interesting animals that live in water! They have some unique features that make them special. Let’s break down how they look step by step:
- Body Shape: Axolotls have a soft and squishy body that is shaped like a fish. Their bodies are usually around 6 to 12 inches long, which is about the same length as a ruler!
- Skin Color: They can come in different colors! Some axolotls are pink and look kind of like a baby, while others can be dark brown or even white. The pink ones show their blood vessels, which is why they look so light!
- Gills: One of the coolest things about axolotls is their fluffy gills! Instead of breathing like we do, axolotls have three pairs of feathery gills on each side of their head. These gills are used to take in oxygen from the water.
- Eyes: Their eyes are dark and simple – they don’t have eyelids, which means they can’t blink!
- Tail: Axolotls have a long, flat tail that helps them swim in the water. It’s very useful when they want to move around quickly!
So, axolotls are soft-bodied, have colorful skin, fluffy gills, simple eyes, and a long tail. They are truly one of the coolest creatures in our rivers!
