What is a Mechanic?

A mechanic is a person who fixes and maintains machines, engines, and other mechanical devices. Just like how a doctor takes care of our bodies when we get sick, a mechanic takes care of machines when they are not working properly.

What Do Mechanics Do?

Mechanics work with all sorts of machines, from cars and bicycles to big machines like bulldozers and airplanes. They use special tools to take apart the machines, figure out what is broken, and then fix or replace the broken parts.

How Do Mechanics Learn?

Many mechanics go to special schools to learn about all the different parts of machines and how to fix them. They also learn a lot on the job, by practicing and working with experienced mechanics.

Example:

Let's say your bicycle has a flat tire. A mechanic would use tools to take off the wheel, find the cause of the flat tire (like a nail or sharp object), and then fix the tire by patching the hole or replacing the tube. After that, they put the wheel back on, making sure it spins smoothly and the brakes work properly. Now your bike is ready to go again!
