Step-by-Step Guide to Baking Chocolate Chip Cookies

Baking cookies is a fun and rewarding activity! Today, we’re going to make chocolate chip cookies from scratch. Let's follow these easy steps together!

Ingredients You Will Need:

  • 1 cup (2 sticks) of unsalted butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup of granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup of brown sugar, packed
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 1/4 cups of all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon of baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon of salt
  • 2 cups of chocolate chips

Tools You Will Need:

  • Mixing bowls
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Mixing spoon or electric mixer
  • Cookie sheet
  • Parchment paper (optional)
  • Oven mitts

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the Oven: Start by asking an adult to help you preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Cream the Butter and Sugars: In a mixing bowl, add the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar. Use a mixing spoon or an electric mixer to mix them together until fluffy.
  3. Add the Eggs and Vanilla: Crack the eggs into the bowl and add the vanilla extract. Mix until everything is well combined.
  4. Mix Dry Ingredients: In another bowl, combine the flour, baking soda, and salt. Stir them together to mix well.
  5. Add Dry Ingredients to Wet Ingredients: Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet mixture. Stir until it is all blended together. Do not overmix!
  6. Fold in Chocolate Chips: Add the chocolate chips to the cookie dough and gently fold them into the mixture with a spatula.
  7. Prepare the Cookie Sheet: Place parchment paper on the cookie sheet if you have it. This helps the cookies not stick.
  8. Scoop the Dough: Use a spoon or cookie scoop to drop dollops of dough onto the cookie sheet. Leave some space between each cookie so they can spread out while baking.
  9. Baking Time: Ask an adult to help place the cookie sheet in the oven. Bake the cookies for about 9-11 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown.
  10. Cool the Cookies: Once done, take the cookie sheet out of the oven (be careful, it's hot!) and let the cookies cool on the sheet for a few minutes. Then transfer them to a wire rack or plate to cool completely.
  11. Enjoy Your Cookies: Once they are cooled, your delicious chocolate chip cookies are ready to eat!

Remember to wash your hands before and after baking, and have fun! Baking with family or friends makes it even better!
