Materials and Prep

  • Paper and coloring materials
  • Books or online resources about puppies
  • Access to a safe outdoor space for physical activities

Activities

  • Create a Puppy Collage: Have the student cut out pictures of puppies from magazines or draw their own and create a collage using glue and paper.
  • Write a Puppy Story: Encourage the student to write a creative story about a puppy, using their imagination and incorporating details about different breeds, colors, and behaviors.
  • Puppy Math: Practice basic math skills by counting puppy pictures or toys, and solving simple addition or subtraction problems related to puppies.
  • Puppy Obstacle Course: Set up a mini obstacle course using household objects and have the student guide a toy puppy through it, promoting physical activity and coordination.
  • Puppy Science Experiment: Explore the concept of sink or float by conducting an experiment with different puppy-related items, such as a toy bone, a rubber ball, and a plastic bowl.
  • Puppy History: Learn about the history of different dog breeds and their origins, discussing how they were bred for specific purposes and how they have evolved over time.
  • Puppy Social Studies: Discuss the responsibilities of pet ownership, including caring for a puppy's needs, the importance of kindness and empathy towards animals, and how puppies can be trained to be good companions.

Talking Points

  • "Puppies are baby dogs. They are very cute and playful!"
  • "Let's create a collage by cutting out pictures of puppies and sticking them on a piece of paper. We can use different colors to make it fun and colorful!"
  • "Now, let's use our imagination and write a story about a puppy. What will the puppy do? How will it look? Let's think about the different things we can include in our story."
  • "For math practice, let's count the number of puppies in this picture. Can you tell me how many there are? Great! Now, let's solve a simple addition problem. If we have 2 puppies and we add 3 more, how many puppies do we have in total?"
  • "Time for some physical activity! We will set up an obstacle course using objects like chairs, pillows, and hula hoops. Can you guide the toy puppy through the course without touching any obstacles?"
  • "Now, let's do a science experiment to see if certain puppy-related items sink or float in water. We will drop them one by one and observe what happens. Can you predict which items will sink and which will float?"
  • "Did you know that different dog breeds have different histories? Some breeds were originally used for herding, some for hunting, and others for companionship. Let's learn more about the history of specific breeds."
  • "As responsible pet owners, it's important to take care of our puppies. We need to provide them with food, water, exercise, and love. We should also treat them with kindness and respect. How can we be kind to our puppy friends?"
