Objective
By the end of this lesson, you will be able to create your own Moon Phase wheel and understand the different phases of the moon.
Materials and Prep
- Construction paper
- Pencil
- Scissors
- Brass fastener
Before starting the lesson, it would be helpful to have a basic understanding of the concept of the moon and its different phases.
Activities
- Draw a large circle on the construction paper using a pencil.
- Divide the circle into eight equal sections, like slices of a pie.
- Write the names of the moon phases in each section: New Moon, Waxing Crescent, First Quarter, Waxing Gibbous, Full Moon, Waning Gibbous, Third Quarter, Waning Crescent.
- Color each section to represent the corresponding moon phase.
- Cut out the circle along the outer edge.
- Punch a hole in the center of the circle.
- Insert a brass fastener through the hole and secure it at the back.
- Now you have your own Moon Phase wheel! You can turn the wheel to see the different phases of the moon.
