Objective
By the end of this lesson, you will be able to understand and apply basic geometric concepts while building traps and designing weapons for fighting imaginary bad guys.
Materials and Prep
- Paper
- Pencils or markers
- Scissors
- Tape or glue
No prior knowledge is required for this lesson.
Activities
- Create a Trap Design (20 minutes)
- Build Your Trap (30 minutes)
- Design a Weapon (20 minutes)
- Share and Play (10 minutes)
Using paper and pencils or markers, design a trap that incorporates different geometric shapes. Think about how you can use triangles, rectangles, circles, or squares to make your trap more effective.
Using scissors, tape or glue, and the materials you have, bring your trap design to life. Cut out the shapes you need and assemble them to create your trap. Make sure it is sturdy and functional!
Now, let's design a weapon to fight imaginary bad guys! Use paper and pencils or markers to create a weapon that incorporates geometric shapes. Think about how you can use lines, angles, or patterns to make your weapon look cool and powerful.
Once you have finished building your trap and designing your weapon, share your creations with someone else. Explain how you used geometric concepts in your designs. Then, have fun playing with your trap and weapon, imagining exciting adventures and battles against imaginary bad guys!
Kindergarten Grade Talking Points
- "Geometry is a part of math that helps us understand shapes and how they fit together."
- "Shapes can be different sizes and colors, but they still have the same basic shape."
- "We can use shapes like triangles, rectangles, circles, and squares to create interesting designs and structures."
- "Lines are straight and can be long or short. They can be used to make shapes or connect different parts of a design."
- "Angles are corners or turns in a shape. They can be sharp or round, and they can help us make things look cool or powerful."
- "Patterns are repeated designs or shapes. They can make our creations look interesting and unique."
