Objective

By the end of this lesson, you will be able to understand the basic concepts of zoology and identify different animal classifications.

Materials and Prep

  • Pen/pencil
  • Blank paper
  • Internet access (optional)

No prior knowledge or preparation is required.

Activities

  1. Research and Create a Zoology Fact Sheet:

Using either a textbook or the internet, research and gather information on five different animal species. Create a fact sheet for each species, including their scientific name, habitat, diet, and any interesting facts you discover.

  2. Animal Classification Game:

Write down the names of various animals on separate pieces of paper. Shuffle the papers and place them face down. Take turns picking a paper and correctly classifying the animal into its appropriate category (mammal, reptile, bird, fish, amphibian). Keep score and see who can correctly classify the most animals.

  3. Design Your Own Creature:

Let your imagination run wild and create your own unique creature. Draw and label its physical characteristics, habitat, diet, and any special adaptations it may have. Be creative and think about how your creature survives in its environment.
