Objective

The objective of this lesson is for the student to learn about owls through physical activities and scientific exploration.

Materials and Prep

  • A clear outdoor space
  • Comfortable clothing and shoes
  • A tablet or computer with internet access (optional)

Before starting the lesson, make sure the student understands the concept of owls and their basic characteristics.

Activities

  • Flight Practice: Have the student flap their arms and run around like an owl, pretending to fly. Encourage them to explore different flying patterns and movements.
  • Observation Walk: Take a walk in a nearby park or garden, and ask the student to observe their surroundings for any signs of owls. Look for trees with owl nests or pellets on the ground.
  • Owl Sounds: Using a tablet or computer, play different owl sounds and ask the student to imitate them. Discuss the different sounds owls make and their purposes.
  • Owl Camouflage: Explain how owls have excellent camouflage skills. Ask the student to find objects in nature that have similar colors or patterns to owls. Discuss why camouflage is important for owls.
