Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to understand and use basic Spanish vocabulary related to art, while also engaging in a creative art activity.

Materials and Prep

  • Art supplies (paper, pencils, markers, crayons, etc.)
  • Spanish-English dictionary (optional)
  • Printed pictures of famous artworks (optional)
  • Access to online resources for reference (optional)

Activities

  • Activity 1: Spanish Vocabulary Flashcards

    Create flashcards with Spanish words related to art on one side and their English translations on the other. Practice with the student by showing a flashcard and asking them to say the corresponding word in Spanish or vice versa.

  • Activity 2: Artwork Description

    Show the student printed pictures of famous artworks or use online resources to display them. Ask the student to describe what they see in Spanish using the vocabulary they have learned. Encourage them to be as detailed as possible.

  • Activity 3: Create Your Own Masterpiece

    Provide the student with art supplies and encourage them to create their own artwork. While they work, engage them in conversation about their creation using the Spanish vocabulary they have learned. Encourage them to use descriptive words in Spanish to talk about their art.

  • "¿Te gusta el arte?" (Do you like art?)
  • "¿Qué tipo de arte te gusta?" (What type of art do you like?)
  • "Esta pintura es muy bonita" (This painting is very beautiful)
  • "¿Cómo se llama esta pintura?" (What is the name of this painting?)
  • "¿Qué colores usaste en tu dibujo?" (What colors did you use in your drawing?)
  • "Me gusta cómo usaste los colores" (I like how you used the colors)
  • "¿Puedes describir tu obra de arte?" (Can you describe your artwork?)
