Objective
By the end of this lesson, the 2 year old homeschool student will be able to recognize and name basic tools.
Materials and Prep
- Toy tools (hammer, screwdriver, wrench, etc.)
- Toy workbench or a sturdy table
- Optional: Picture cards of different tools
- Clear space for activities
Activities
- Tool Exploration: Allow the student to explore the toy tools by touching and examining them. Encourage them to make observations about the different shapes, sizes, and colors of the tools.
- Tool Sorting: Spread out the toy tools on the table or floor. Ask the student to help you sort the tools based on their similarities, such as grouping all the hammers together, all the screwdrivers together, etc.
- Tool Matching: If you have picture cards of different tools, show one card at a time and ask the student to find the matching toy tool from the collection. This activity helps reinforce tool recognition and association.
- Tool Playtime: Encourage the student to engage in pretend play using the toy tools and workbench. Demonstrate how to use each tool and encourage them to imitate you. For example, pretend to hammer a nail, turn a screw with a screwdriver, or twist a bolt with a wrench.
