Materials and Prep
- Construction paper
- Crayons or markers
- Scissors
- Glue stick
- Music player or instrument (optional)
- Open space for physical activities
No prior knowledge or preparation is required for this lesson.
Activities
-
Create a Feelings Collage:
Provide the student with construction paper, crayons or markers, scissors, and a glue stick. Encourage them to draw and cut out different shapes and colors that represent different feelings. Assist them in gluing the shapes onto the construction paper to create a collage of emotions.
-
Express Emotions through Music:
If you have a music player or an instrument, play different songs with varying moods. Guide the student to move their body and express their emotions through dance or simple movements while listening to the music.
-
Outdoor Physical Activity:
Take the student outside to engage in physical activities like running, jumping, or playing with a ball. Explain that physical exercise is not only good for our bodies but also for our minds.
Talking Points
- "Sometimes we feel happy, sad, or angry. It's okay to have different feelings."
- "When we feel sad, we can talk to someone we trust, like mommy, daddy, or a teacher."
- "We can also draw or color to express our feelings. What color do you think represents happiness?"
- "Listening to music can make us feel different emotions. Let's dance and show how we feel when the music is fast or slow."
- "Running and playing outside can make us feel happy and energized. It's good for our bodies and minds."
- "Taking care of our mental health means being kind to ourselves and others. Can you think of something nice we can do for someone today?"
