Materials and Prep

  • No materials required
  • Ensure a quiet and comfortable learning environment

Activities

  • Art: Encourage the student to draw or paint their favorite nature scene. While they create, discuss the colors, shapes, and textures they observe, and how it makes them feel calm and peaceful.

  • English: Read a mindfulness-themed children's book together. Pause at certain points to ask the student how they think the characters are feeling and why. Discuss the importance of being present and paying attention to our emotions.

  • History: Show the student pictures of different historical landmarks or artifacts. Ask them to imagine what it would be like to visit those places or use those objects. Encourage them to describe how they would feel in those moments.

  • Music: Play soft, calming music in the background. Ask the student to close their eyes and listen carefully. After the music ends, have a short discussion about how the music made them feel and what emotions it evoked.

  • Physical Education: Practice simple yoga poses with the student, such as the tree pose or the butterfly pose. Explain that yoga helps us relax and focus on our bodies and breath. Encourage them to take deep breaths while holding each pose.

  • Science: Take the student outside to observe nature. Encourage them to touch the leaves, smell the flowers, and listen to the sounds of birds or insects. Discuss how being in nature can help us feel more connected and calm.

  • Social Studies: Show the student pictures of diverse children from around the world. Talk about how everyone is unique and special in their own way. Encourage the student to think about how they can be kind and accepting towards others.
