Objective
By the end of this lesson, the 4-year-old student will be able to create a shadow self-portrait using only natural light and their own body.
Materials and Prep
- A well-lit room with a blank wall
- A chair or stool for the student to sit on
- Plain white paper
- Markers or crayons
Activities
Explain to the student what a shadow is and how it is created. Have them observe their own shadow by standing in front of a light source, such as a window or lamp.
Set up the chair or stool against the blank wall and position the student so that their shadow falls on the wall.
Encourage the student to strike a pose or make a funny face to create an interesting shadow.
Provide the student with the plain white paper and markers or crayons. Instruct them to trace the outline of their shadow on the paper.
Once the outline is traced, have the student color or decorate their shadow self-portrait using the markers or crayons.
