Talking Points

  • Dyslexia Definition: Dyslexia is a learning difference that primarily affects reading, writing, and spelling skills. It does not reflect intelligence or effort.
  • Common Challenges: People with dyslexia may struggle with decoding words, reading fluently, and organizing their thoughts in writing.
  • Strengths of Dyslexia: Dyslexic individuals often possess exceptional creativity, problem-solving skills, and out-of-the-box thinking.
  • Support Strategies: Encourage the use of assistive technologies, such as text-to-speech software or audiobooks. Provide extra time for assignments and offer alternative ways to demonstrate understanding.
  • Empathy and Understanding: It is important to be patient, understanding, and accepting of individuals with dyslexia. Everyone learns differently, and dyslexia does not define a person's worth or potential.
