Objective
By the end of this lesson, the 2-year-old student will have a basic understanding of British science week and engage in fun activities related to science.
Materials and Prep
- Colored construction paper
- Child-safe scissors
- Glue stick
- Markers or crayons
No prior knowledge or preparation is required for this lesson.
Activities
- Create a Science Collage: Provide the student with colored construction paper, child-safe scissors, and a glue stick. Encourage them to cut out pictures of different science-related objects from magazines or draw their own pictures. Help them glue the pictures onto a larger piece of paper to create a science collage.
- Experiment with Water: Fill a small container with water and place it in front of the student. Show them how objects float or sink in water by placing various items (e.g., a toy boat, a rubber duck, a spoon) into the container. Ask the student to predict whether each item will float or sink before testing it.
- Build a Tower: Give the student a set of building blocks or other stackable objects. Encourage them to build a tower as tall as they can. Discuss concepts like balance and stability as they experiment with different ways to stack the blocks.
Talking Points
- "Science is all about exploring and discovering new things. Today, we are going to learn about British science week and have fun with science activities."
- "We can make a science collage by cutting out pictures of things like planets, animals, and tools scientists use. Let's stick them on a big paper to create our own science artwork."
- "Water can be so interesting! Look at this container filled with water. Can you guess if the toy boat will float or sink? Let's try it and see what happens."
- "Building towers is like a science experiment. We need to think about how to balance the blocks so that our tower doesn't fall. Can you stack the blocks higher? Let's try!"
