Objective

By the end of this lesson, you will be able to perform intermediate yoga poses with proper form and control.

Materials and Prep

  • Comfortable clothing
  • Yoga mat or non-slip surface
  • Water bottle
  • Clear space to move around

Before starting the lesson, make sure you have a clear understanding of basic yoga poses and have warmed up your body.

Activities

  • 1. Sun Salutation: Start with a series of sun salutations to warm up your body. Begin in mountain pose, raise your arms up overhead, fold forward into a forward bend, step back into a plank pose, lower down into a low push-up, transition into upward dog, push back into downward dog, step or hop to the front of your mat, and rise back up to mountain pose. Repeat this sequence 5-10 times.
  • 2. Warrior Poses: Practice warrior I, warrior II, and warrior III poses. Stand with your feet wide apart, turn one foot out, bend your front knee, and extend your arms out to the sides. Hold each warrior pose for 5-10 breaths, then switch sides.
  • 3. Tree Pose: Stand tall and shift your weight onto one leg. Place the sole of your other foot on your inner thigh or calf, avoiding the knee. Find your balance and bring your hands to prayer position at your chest. Hold for 30 seconds to 1 minute, then switch sides.
  • 4. Balancing Poses: Explore other balancing poses like eagle pose, dancer pose, or half moon pose. Challenge yourself to maintain your balance and focus.
  • 5. Cool Down and Savasana: Finish the session with gentle stretches and a final relaxation pose called savasana. Lie down on your back, close your eyes, and allow your body to completely relax.
