Objective

The objective of this lesson is to introduce the concept of coffee in a fun and engaging way, and to spark the child's curiosity and interest in the subject.

Materials and Prep

  • A toy coffee mug
  • A small toy coffee maker (optional)
  • Pretend coffee beans or coffee grounds
  • A small bowl or container
  • Water
  • A spoon or stirrer
  • Any additional props or toys related to coffee (if available)

Before the lesson, make sure to familiarize yourself with the basic concepts of coffee, such as the fact that it is a drink made from coffee beans and often enjoyed by adults.

Activities

  • Role Play: Encourage the child to pretend to make coffee using the toy coffee maker and mug. They can fill the toy coffee maker with water, add pretend coffee grounds, and "brew" their own cup of coffee.
  • Sensory Play: Fill a small bowl or container with water and add some pretend coffee beans or coffee grounds. Let the child explore the texture and smell of the coffee beans using their hands or a spoon.
  • Matching Game: Create simple picture cards or print out images related to coffee, such as a coffee mug, coffee beans, or a coffee shop. Show the child the pictures and encourage them to match the cards to the corresponding objects or toys.
  • Story Time: Read a children's book about coffee or coffee-related characters, such as "Coffee Gives Me Superpowers" by Ryoko Iwata or "Coffee Can't Sleep" by Tanya Valentine.
