Objective
By the end of this lesson, you will be able to understand basic math concepts while having fun with fairies!
Materials and Prep
- Paper and pencil
- Coloring materials (crayons, markers, etc.)
- Imagination!
Activities
1. Fairy Counting: Draw different fairies on a piece of paper and label them with numbers. Color them in and count how many fairies there are in total.
2. Fairy Patterns: Create a pattern using different colored fairies. For example, draw a red fairy, then a blue fairy, then a red fairy again. Ask the student to continue the pattern.
3. Fairy Addition: Draw two groups of fairies on a piece of paper and ask the student to count how many fairies are in each group. Then, combine the two groups and ask the student to count the total number of fairies.
4. Fairy Subtraction: Draw a group of fairies on a piece of paper and ask the student to count how many fairies there are. Then, erase a few fairies and ask the student to count the remaining fairies.
Talking Points
- Counting with fairies: "Let's count how many fairies we have. Start with one and keep counting as we go."
- Patterns with fairies: "Look at the different colored fairies. Can you continue the pattern by drawing the next fairy?"
- Addition with fairies: "If we have 3 fairies in one group and 2 fairies in another group, how many fairies do we have in total?"
- Subtraction with fairies: "We had 5 fairies, but I erased 2 of them. How many fairies are left?"
