Materials and Prep

- Butterfly books or printed pictures
- Optional: Butterfly life cycle chart or diagram
Prior knowledge required: Basic understanding of colors and shapes.
Activities
- Butterfly Coloring: Provide the toddler with a butterfly coloring sheet or a blank piece of paper. Encourage them to use their favorite colors to decorate the butterfly.
- Butterfly Observation: Show the toddler pictures of different butterflies or use butterfly books. Discuss the colors, patterns, and shapes of the butterflies. Ask questions like "What colors do you see on this butterfly?" or "How many wings does a butterfly have?"
- Butterfly Life Cycle: Introduce the concept of a butterfly's life cycle. Show or draw a simple diagram of the four stages: egg, caterpillar, chrysalis, and butterfly. Explain that butterflies start as tiny eggs, grow into caterpillars, form a chrysalis, and finally emerge as beautiful butterflies.
- Life Cycle Art: Provide the toddler with paper and crayons. Ask them to draw each stage of the butterfly's life cycle, using their imagination and creativity.
