By the end of this lesson, you will be able to define psychology, explain its goals, and research and compare historical psychologists.

Materials and Prep

  • Access to a computer or library for research

Activities

  • Activity 1: Define Psychology
    Research and write down a clear definition of psychology. Think about its scope and the areas it covers. Be prepared to share your definition with the class.
  • Activity 2: Goals of Psychology
    Create a mind map or a list of the different goals of psychology. Include goals such as understanding human behavior, explaining mental processes, and improving mental health. Use your research to support each goal with examples.
  • Activity 3: Research Historical Psychologists
    Choose two or three historical psychologists and research their contributions to the field. Take notes on their theories, experiments, and any significant findings. Compare and contrast their approaches to psychology.
  • Activity 4: Compare Historical Psychologists
    Create a visual presentation (poster, slideshow, etc.) comparing the historical psychologists you researched. Highlight their similarities, differences, and the impact of their work on the field of psychology. Be prepared to present your findings to the class.
