Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to recognize and read a set of sight words.
Materials and Prep
- Flashcards or word cards with sight words written on them
- A whiteboard or a piece of paper and markers
- A comfortable reading area
Activities
- Word Scavenger Hunt: Hide the word cards around the room and let the student find them one by one. Once they find a card, ask them to read the word out loud.
- Word Bingo: Create a bingo grid on the whiteboard or paper with the sight words written in random order. Give the student a set of flashcards and call out the words one by one. The student should mark the corresponding word on their bingo grid.
- Word Puzzles: Write each sight word on a separate piece of paper and cut them into puzzle pieces. Mix up the pieces and ask the student to put them back together to form the correct word.
- Word Relay Race: Divide the sight words into two sets. Place the sets at opposite ends of the room. Have the student stand in the middle. Call out a word and the student needs to run to the corresponding set and pick up the correct word card. Repeat with different words, encouraging speed and accuracy.
