Objective

Materials and Prep

  • Paper and pencils
  • Computer with internet access
  • Access to a streaming platform or DVD collection with animated movies

Prior knowledge of basic drawing and computer skills will be helpful.

Activities

  1. Watch and Analyze

    Choose an animated movie from your collection or streaming platform. Watch it attentively, paying close attention to the animation techniques, storytelling, character development, and overall visual appeal.

  2. Create a Storyboard

    Using paper and pencils, create a storyboard for a short animated movie of your own. Plan out the key scenes, characters, and actions. Include notes on the emotions you want to convey and any special effects you may want to incorporate.

  3. Research Animation Techniques

    Use the internet to research different animation techniques such as hand-drawn, stop-motion, and computer-generated animation. Take notes on the advantages and disadvantages of each technique.

  4. Create a Digital Animation

    Using digital technology, create a short animated sequence using the technique of your choice. Experiment with different tools and effects to bring your storyboard to life.

  5. Present and Reflect

    Present your storyboard and digital animation to a family member or friend. Discuss what you have learned throughout the process and reflect on the challenges and successes you experienced.
